Batala Lancaster has adopted a charity each year. Any member can nominate a charity, and members vote at our AGM to decide which one we will support for the next year.
To date, our adopted charities have been:
- 2017 – St John’s Hospice Lancaster
- 2018 – Blue Skies Hospital Fund Blackpool
- 2019 – Lancashire MIND
- 2020/2021 – RNLI (extended due to COVID)
- 2022 – Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue
- 2023 – PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide UK
- 2024 – CancerCare
We usually play one or two busking gigs for each charity for free and take our collection buckets. In addition, we have played at events that the charity has already organised, and held raffles and preloved costume sales to raise funds.
We raised a fantastic £1,283 for our outgoing charity, CancerCare, over the 2024 season.
We are delighted to announce that St John’s Hospice has been chosen as our adopted charity for the 2025/26 gig season.
St John’s Hospice is a local charity that provides free palliative care to patients with life-shortening conditions. Its services cover a population of 250,000 people in North Lancashire, South Lakes, and parts of North Yorkshire. Since 1986, it has been caring for our community every minute of every day.
We have our first two events already booked to support St John’s Hospice:
- 27 April: Kendal Colour Dash
- 17 August: Cross Bay Walk
